First Friday Mostly Waltz

A new social dance series that started in May 2008! Waltzes, polkas and more, live music plus DJ during the breaks. First Fridays of every month.

February 6:Special guest teacher Saskia Tomkins will give a lesson in some simple Cajun dances to put some bayou flavour into the evening. Costumes and/or masks welcome (but not necessary). Please bring some treats to share at the break!

April 3:Saskia Tomkins Duo
May 1:Steve Fuller Duo - The one year anniversary dance of the Mostly Waltz series! Punch will be served. Festive attire encouraged.

Cost: dance only is $10/$7 full-time students; dance plus lesson is $15/$10 full-time students

Venues: 823 Manning Ave. at the parish hall of Christ the Saviour Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Toronto, ON. Directions to the hall.

   June 19 location: St. Barnabas Anglican Church Hall, Danforth at Chester (entrance around the corner through the playground on Hampton), Toronto, ON. Directions to the hall.

* BRIAN TAHENY
Brian Taheny emigrated to Canada from Sligo in 1988, an extremely accomplished Celtic musician with a strong and uniquely distinctive style. He has played with Martin Hayes, Pierre Shryer, Clannad and many other distinguished musicians. He is equally at home on many instruments, and is well known on the folk festival circuit, including Vancouver Folk Festival, St. John's & Labrador, Goderich, Milwaukee and many more. He has appeared on television and radio in several countries.

January 1, 2009: New Year's Day special dance with Crowfoot at Dovercourt House, top floor. Buffet of holiday goodies included!

July 25, 2009: Special dance with Celticladda at Dovercourt House, top floor. We'll dance to Randy Miller on fiddle, Bill Thomas on flute and uilleann pipes, and Gordon Peery on piano.

Time: Cakewalk and polka lesson, 3-4; Mostly Waltz dance, 4-7
Cost: $10, $15 with the lesson ($7/$10 for full-time students)

Waltz Workshops

 

New and Improved Mostly Waltz Starter Kit


1-1.45 — Waltz 101: Getting Comfortable / partner awareness - All levels. Plus timing, connection, carriage, listening skills, and more.
2-2.45 — The frame (ballroom or waltz hold) - All levels.
3-3.45 — Basic turning waltz / waltz clinic - All levels.
3.45-4 — Open waltzing (included with attendance of any class)

One lesson: $12 / students $9
Two lessons: $22 / students $16
Three lessons: $30 / students $24

Prerequisite for the third class is either attendance at the first (Waltz 101) or some waltz experience.
